ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL OF NEW YORK CITY HOLDS A SPECIAL PET ADOPTION EVENT TO CELEBRATE RECORD ADOPTIONS
Adoption Fees Will Be Discounted on Saturday, March 15 at All Care Centers
NEW YORK CITY (March 14, 2008)—Animal Care & Control of NYC will host a special pet adoption event on Saturday, March 15, as a way to say thank you to the community for their record successes in the past year. Pet adoptions at AC&C were up almost 9% and euthanasia was down 12% in 2007 over the previous year -- and remains at an all time low.
This Saturday from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM, New Yorkers can go to the AC&C shelters in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island to adopt an adorable and happy pet, meet staff, find out how to volunteer, or simply stop by for a visit. Adoptions fees will be half the usual rate and anyone who adopts a pet from AC&C during the open house will receive a free gift for their newest family member. Adoption fees range from $25.00 to $150.00 for dogs and $25.00 for cats.
Charlene Pedrolie, the new Executive Director at AC&C will be stopping by all of the centers to meet new pet owners. “We could not have achieved these amazing results without the support of the public and our rescue partners,” said .Ms. Pedrolie. “This celebration is one way for us to show our appreciation to all those that continue to support our efforts. AC&C staff members are looking forward to a big turn-out so that all the adoptable pets in their shelters go to good homes by the end of the day.”
"While we still have far to go, New York City's Animal Care and Control and its partners are helping thousands of New Yorkers adopt happy, healthy pets," said Dr. Thomas R. Frieden New York City's Health Commissioner.” I want to thank Charlene Pedrolie and her staff for all of the great work they do every day, and I encourage anyone interested in adding an animal to their family to visit the shelters in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Staten Island this weekend."
AC&C also reported that every day new animal rescue groups are joining 226 other rescue groups to become part of AC&C’s New Hope Rescue Partner program. In addition, more dogs are getting walked and cats are being socialized through grant-funded positions as well as a revamped volunteer program.
Members of the public can call 212-788-4000 for more information about Saturday’s program. Shelters are located in Manhattan at 326 E. 110th St.; Brooklyn at 2336 Linden Blvd.; and Staten Island at 3139 Veteran’s Road West.
