STAR (Special Treatment and Recovery) Fund
ACC's STAR (Special Treatment and Recovery) Fund supports the treatment of many injured, ill or abused dogs and cats each year. Donations to the STAR Fund are used to pay for medical care that only a specialized facility can provide. Currently ACC is using STAR Funding to care for Trey, a stray pup that was covered in deep lacerations and puncture wounds of unknown origins. Trey was brought into our Brooklyn Care Center on December 2, 2016 and our upon immediate examination by our medical staff the decision was made to transfer Trey to Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital ASAP.
The STAR Fund is essential to ACC's ability to fulfill its mission to promote and protect the health and safety of pets and people in New York City. Each year, approximately twenty animals receive extraordinary medical attention with the Fund's support. One case costs on average $8,000, so funds get depleted quickly. That's why it is so important to get support from the public, so that we can continue to work with NYC veterinary hospitals as these cases arrive.
Trey will continue treatment at Blue Pearl until he is ready to go into an ACC Foster home that is already setting up for his arrival.
