FIND A TEMPORARY CAREGIVER IN CASE YOU ARE HOSPITALIZED.

The best place for your pet is in their home, but make sure there is someone who can take your pet into their home if you become too ill to care for them. It would be best if the pet knows and likes that person (such as a friend or family member), however, any home is better than the stressful environment of a shelter. Consider contacting pet-sitters and boarding facilities as well. Many boarding facilities have availability because people are not traveling and do not need to utilize boarding services.

If you need assistance, please call the NYC COVID-19 Pet Hotline at 877-204-8821, available 8 am - 8 pm seven days a week.

Put together an “emergency supply kit.”

This should include:

  • Name and contact information for the person who can care for your pets
  • Name and contact information for your back-up in case your go-to is no longer able to help
  • Food, treats, a leash, toys and any other supplies necessary to care for your pet for at least two weeks
  • A crate or carrier to transport your pet
  • Vaccination records
  • Collar with ID tags (make sure their microchip information is up to date!)
  • Medications and prescriptions, along with instructions (if needed)
  • Daily care instructions
  • Your veterinarian’s contact information

CDC Guidance

According to the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, there is currently no evidence that people can get COVID-19 from pets. The best place for your pet is in the home they know and love. If you aren’t feeling well but are still able to provide care for your pet, please keep them at home where they feel most comfortable.

Keeping shelters free of long-term care animals allows them to be better prepared for the onset of kitten season as well as the ongoing need to respond to emergency cases.

ACC is closed to the public. Emergency services will be provided by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Stay up-to-date with our changes at our dedicated COVID-19 page.

There are several ways you can help ACC and our boroughbreds. Donations of supplies needed can be purchased from our Amazon Wish List.

ACC is working hard to be a community resource – both for our citizens and our community pets. Donations help us keep families together and allows us to continue our lifesaving work.
