Brooke came into the care center as a stray, so we have no known history of her behavior in a home setting. In the care center, Brooke has been tolerant of handling and interaction but shows a low threshold for arousal. During her handling assessment, Brooke repeatedly grabbed the leash and could be distracted with a treat but returned to the leash when she finished the treat. During the "Jog" item, where the assessor and dog jog back and forth across the room, Brooke again grabbed the leash, then dropped it and snapped repeatedly towards the assessor. When interrupted by the other handler (by making noise), Brooke turned toward the assistant growled, then resumed snapping towards assessor. She was then left alone for a few minutes and calmed down enough to be returned to her kennel. During her daily socialization sessions Brooke displays interest in her human handlers, approaching and soliciting attention. She readily accepts touch and petting, but continues to become easily aroused when over stimulated. We recommend an adult-only foster home where Brooke can receive guidance on her coping skills and impulse control, and can learn to self-deescalate when she becomes worked up.

A staff member writes: Brooke is an excitable pup that likes to keep herself entertained, especially if you can't keep up with her pace! She's warmed up to some of her human friends and can be very accepting of petting and attention. Our Brooke had displayed the propensity to become very overly stimulated at times and would benefit from positive guidance on how to better manage and redirect these behaviors.
