Lucky has allowed for most handling necessary at the care center and has shown positive behavior during cue training sessions with the behavior team, but he continues to rush forward, lunge, and hard bark while in the kennel. His behaviors have resulted in handlers having a difficult time removing him safely from his kennel. His owner has reported that Lucky will snap if someone touches or attempts to take away his food, toys, or treats, and he has also reported that he has gotten into fights with other dogs in the home. Lucky has snapped at household members but he has never broken skin. Lucky has a history of leg pain and reoccurring ear infections that will require management. Lucky will require an experienced, adult-only foster home that will be able to manage his behaviors and work with Lucky using force-free, positive reinforcement training. A volunteer writes: I had seen Lucky around a few times before properly being introduced, but I wasn't quite prepared for what a glorious creature he is! Clocking in at almost 90 pounds, he's not for the faint of heart; but, as I watch a staff member, who moonlights as one of his adoring fans, harness him up, I realize he's more benign than brute. Lucky is all puppy. He doesn't seem to have quite grown into his frame, and he bumbles about the yard chasing a ball or squeaking a toy. At one point, he lays down and rests his head on a plushy, just happy to be out and listening to us chat about him. According to his former home, Lucky is both house and crate trained, knows the commands, "sit, stay, and leave it", and enjoys brisk walks and jogs. He's still a teenager and is looking for a home without other pets that can help polish his manners, and teach him some impulse control. His name might be Lucky, but it is I who felt fortunate to be able to make his acquaintance!
