Riley Quinn has appeared fearful while at the care center. She has begun to allow certain people to leash her and has become social with select handlers, but continues to hard bark at unknown handlers. During intake Riley Quinn had her tail tucked between her legs and was hard barking at the counselor. Her previous owners report that around strangers Riley Quinn will hard bark when approached and described her to be fearful. During her medical exam Riley Quinn was shaking with a tucked tail and began growling with medical handling needing to be sedated. Riley has also been observed to hard bark at other dogs at the care center. Her previous owner also stated that if you take away Riley Quinn's food, toys or treats away while they're in her possession she will growl and snap. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate her behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent adult-only home due to Riley Quinn's fearfulness and potential for defensive aggression as well as her resource guarding.

A staff member writes: According to my previous owner, for every bad habit I formed, I have a good one. I am fearful and defensive against certain strangers, friendly with others. I destroy household items, but I love balls, stuffed toys, and squeaky toys. I pull hard on the leash, but have a very high energy level, which makes me ideal for active humans. I resource guard food, toys, and treats, but was friendly, relaxed, and respectful of the children, ages 6 and 10, in my previous home. I have accidents in the house, so I am looking for a human who is willing to housetrain me. I dislike grooming, but am friendly, playful, and excitable. I can be anxious, but I know the command sit confidently. If you feel you can work with me, I can work with you. Make an appointment to meet me at the Manhattan Care Center!
