Rocky has slowly started to become social with familiar handlers in the care center, but he has begun to deteriorate while in his kennel. Rocky has been observed to throw his body against the kennel doors while hard barking and jumping up on the door. He has been observed to race back and forth while barking and hyper-salivating and has been seen spinning in circles and biting at the kennel bars. Rocky has chipped a canine tooth as a result of his growing anxiety. While outside of the kennel, Rocky enjoys playing fetch and has recently started soliciting attention from select handlers. Due to his handling sensitivity (head whipping and growling upon contact,) his overall high level of anxiety, and fearful potential for defensive aggression, Rocky will need to go to an experienced, adult-only foster that will allow for a decompression period, and allow Rocky to open up at his own pace. Rocky will require on-going, positive reinforcement, force-free training in his foster home. A volunteer writes: Rocky may look like a tough guy, but he's got a softer side that's just waiting to come out! This fawn-colored hunk was brought to the Care Center when his owner became sick. Over the past month, we've learned that Rocky plays favorites with the staff. When he really likes you, he puts his front paws in your lap and leans his head into your hands. He loves to get lovies under his chin, neck, and back. And when you stop, Rocky will paw at you and push his cute nose against you until you continue the lovefest. We've also learned that Rocky is always up for a game of fetch. He knows sit, come, down and stay, and the staff has been making sure he doesn't forget his cues. But lately, Rocky has been getting frustrated with shelter life. He's used to having his person to give him scratches and play with him in the yard. Rocky needs a rescue to put him into an adult-only foster home so he can decompress from shelter life and learn some new social skills. While he's not reactive to other dogs, Rocky hasn't been around other dogs very much, so he'll need some socialization training. For this reason, the ACC recommends a home without other pets or small kids. He's seeking a New Hope rescue. If you're interested in giving this handsome brown-eyed boy a chance, contact the ACC!
