Stan arrived into the care center as a stray, so behavior history is unknown. He has appeared highly social toward his caretakers. During Stan's behavior assessment, he displayed resource guarding behavior, becoming very stiff when the assess-a-hand was used to reach for the toy in his possession. It has been reported that while on outside walks, he will become aroused and fixated on select objects, grabbing and holding on to them if he is able to get near them. This has been observed with larger items such as traffic cones, as well as other smaller objects (i.e; water bottles, etc.). Stan also becomes stiff and displays a stiff body when these objects are in his possession. This behavior in conjunction with observed resource guarding creates significant cause for concern. It cannot be said with certainty what objects Stan may become aroused by and attempt to grab. He should be left alone when he is in possession of anything as we do not know what items he may guard. Stan's future caretakers should be prepared to manage this behavior in his new home through management and positive reinforcement training. He should be placed in an adult-only home.

A staff member writes on behalf of Stan: Hi my name is Stan and I'm ready to be your number one fan! I was found outside so the care center doesn't know much about my past but I'm looking forward to my future. I like spending time with my handlers and I love snacks. I'm hoping to find someone who will give me the time and space to be who I really am in a home setting and is willing work with me on any issues I may have because no one's perfect but I'd be a really great friend!
