Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) was established with a clear mission: to end animal homelessness in New York City and provide a compassionate refuge for animals in need. Founded in 1995 by the City of New York, ACC was created to address the growing need for an animal welfare organization capable of caring for homeless, lost, and neglected animals across all five boroughs—Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Today, we are the city’s only open-admissions shelter, offering care and services to every animal, regardless of its background or condition.
Over the years, ACC has grown from a basic shelter service to a full-spectrum animal care organization. Our programs now include adoption, medical care, foster placements, and community resources designed to support pet owners and reduce animal homelessness. We’ve built relationships with rescue partners, local businesses, and dedicated volunteers, enabling us to expand our reach and impact.
Our team of passionate professionals and volunteers works tirelessly to reunite lost pets with their families, find loving homes for animals, and educate the community on responsible pet ownership. ACC has embraced innovative solutions to animal care, such as behavior training, pet retention support, and the development of robust adoption networks.
As a pillar in New York City’s animal welfare community, we remain committed to building a more humane city where every animal is valued and respected. Join us in making a lasting difference for New York City’s animals—because together, we can create a future where every animal finds a safe and loving home.
