Support ACC's Lifesaving Funds

STAR (Special Treatment & Recovery)

Dogs, cats and rabbits requiring extensive medical and/or surgical care often arrive at ACC. The STAR (Special Treatment & Recovery) Fund is used to pay for medical care that only a specialized facility can provide.

Community Resources Fund

The Community Resources Fund helps keep pets in loving homes by providing items such as free wellness services, spay/neuter surgeries, a pet food pantry and behavior training for owners in need.

Pawsitive Placement Fund

The Pawsitive Placement Fund helps ACC immediately place dogs struggling to adjust to the shelter environment and in need of specialized behavior training with our New Hope Program partners. Your gift provides stipends to our partners who can welcome dogs showing signs of increased stress or anxiety before more significant behavioral challenges develop, ensuring these dogs a better chance to be their best selves and thrive in forever, loving homes.

Community Kids

ACC’s Community Kids Program provides humane education and junior volunteer opportunities for kids across NYC. Your support contributes to our goal of informing, inspiring, and empowering the next generation of pet guardians and animal advocates!

Beat the Heat!

Tips for keeping your pets safe in extreme heat.

Beat the Heat!

Tips for keeping your pets safe in extreme heat.

Hydration is critical. Keep fresh water available at all times.

Limit exercise and exposure. Stay indoors as much as possible and avoid walks during the day & afternoon.

Never leave pets in a parked car. Temperatures turn deadly in minutes, even with the windows cracked.

Secure your windows. Open windows mean fall risk. High-rise syndrome is a real and preventable danger, make sure all windows have screens or protective barriers.

Protect their paws. Test the temperature of the ground with your hand. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws.

Know the signs of heat stroke. Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse require immediate vet attention.

Cooling, done right. Skip wet towels, they trap heat. Pour cool (not ice cold) water instead, focusing on areas with bare skin.

No AC? Keep air moving. Use fans to keep air circulating.

Know the Cooling Centers. Thanks to Petco, pet-friendly cooling locations are available across the city. Click here to view the map (filter for pet friendly).

Stay hydrated, stay cool, and keep your pets safe during the heatwave.
